Development of skills and competencies related to the embryo transfer is considered a fundamental aspect of training in Assisted Human Reproduction.

There are many factors that impact the outcome following an embryo transfer including the patient’s age, how long the patient has been infertile, number and quality of embryos transferred, level of difficulty, type of catheter and presence of blood in the transfer catheter.

Training involves gently introducing a catheter into the cervical canal, visualization of the catheter about 1-2cm from the back of the uterus and assessment of the depth and placement of the catheter. Thus, the embryo transfer requires performing a transabdominal ultrasound to demonstrate mastery of the technique.

By developing an Assisted Human Reproduction simulation program, professionals may receive training related to the embryo transfer techniques and process before performing on a real patient.

The embryo transfer simulation model improves the learning curve and skill development. This has important clinical relevance, especially for patients who undergo the embryo transfer with a professional who has prior experience.

This course is accredited with 1.45 credits by the Health Quality Agency of Andalusia.
