The acronym IMSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection using a technique known as Motile Sperm Organelle Morphology Examination (MSOME). Different groups who work in Assisted Human Reproduction defend the association between sperm morphology/motility and sperm DNA fragmentation; thus, the use of this technique in some cases may be considered optimal.
Learning IMSI requires prior mastery of the ICSI technique. At present, the way by which these skills and competencies are acquired is not easily reproducible and depends on the laboratory and the workload.
IMSI training by performing simulations on mouse gametes makes it possible to acquire skills and competencies in IMSI in a way that can be reproduced and evaluated before moving on to the Assisted Human Reproduction laboratory.
